Part of what makes Denver such an attractive destination is the vibrant, inclusive population with a multitude of cultural influences. Affordable housing options are critical to maintaining this diverse culture. Over the past decade, Downtown Denver has seen a significant increase in population, especially in the 25- to 34-year-old millennial demographic. This influx in the Downtown population has led to increasingly high rents in a quickly expanding supply of apartments. However, the for-sale condominium market has moved in the opposite direction, with the start of new construction consistently decreasing. To remain relevant with the millennial population, which will drive development and planning through the first half of the 21st century, the city must focus on creating an environment where both affordable and midrange housing options are available in the Downtown area.
